DSP110

The DSP110 is a full length, advanced and versatile 8 lane PCIe (PCI Express) carrier card that accepts PMC/XMC and TIM modules. A PLX PEX8624 switch chip interfaces the host PCIe lanes to the various devices and modules on the board or attached to it. The onboard TI DSP, the PMCs and the SATA interfaces can communicate with each other through their respective local PCI buses which are interfaced to this switch chip. If only PMC/XMC modules are used on the DSP110 then these modules can communicate with the host PC through their primary, 4 lanes, PCIe connection.

The two PMC/XMC modules can also communicate with each other through the local PCI-X bus and the 8 lane secondary XMC connection as well. If DSP110 is populated with only TIMs then the modules can communicate with each other and with the onboard DSP using Sundance SCom protocol through the FPGA on the DSP110. Each 8bit asynchronous SCom connection can provide in excess of 100MB/s and is configurable to use 16 or 32 bits for higher throughput. The onboard DSP can also communicate to the host via a local PCI bus which is interfaced to a 1*lane PCIe. In the case of mixing the TIMs with a PMC/XMC then the communication between them can be via many different routes using the SCom protocol. It can be through the P14 IO pins of the PMC/XMCs that are routed to the FPGA on DSP110 as all the IO pins of the TIMs are also routed to the same FPGA. Almost all of the modules are fitted with Samtec connectors providing additional IO pins that can be used to connect various module on the carrier card with each other or to external devices.

This carrier can provide a lot of performance with added flexibility and versatility for many different applications. This interface rich carrier provides 2 SATA interfaces which can be used for data logging by any of the modules on the board. Any hard disk attached to this interface can also be seen by the Host PCs OS. This can be quite versatile for data logging management and transfer.

DSP110 also comes with USB, Ethernet and Fiber Optic interfaces. Apart from the USB interface the remaining interfaces are provided through two SGMII/SFP cages. This means that many different standard interfaces can be easily used on this board. With the USB and Ethernet connections, this board is ideal for embedded applications. These can be used for communication to the board without using a host PCs PCIe slot.

The fans fitted to the carrier can help with the cooling but more importantly, its conduction cooled feature for PMC/XMCs and also TIMS can greatly simplify thermal management.

The board can accept external power for embedded applications.
