Company Goal
Efficient, high throughput, Digital Signal Processing DSP+FPGA boards/modules in PMC/XMC, PC104 and PCI formats.
Sundance DSP specializes in the fields of FPGA IP cores, DSP Application Blocks, DSP libraries, DSP/FPGA applications, and DSP+FFPGA development tools. Sundance DSP is also a provider of the most advanced Design Automation tools, which can be used to develop a parallel processing application targeting both DSP and FPGA on DSP modules/boards plus FPGA modules/ and boards from a single Simulink block. This Design Automation tool is for Rapid Application Prototyping ( RAD ) to help reduce time to market for advanced applications using multi DSP and FPGA hardware systems. System solutions needing high speed DSPs, high performance FPGAs with peak data rates in many MB/s and highly optimized Floating Point DSP and other libraries plus sophisticated FPGA IP cores.
The DSPs/FPGAs used by Sundance DSP is from Texas Instruments and Xilinx. Sundance makes extensive use of TMS320C6414, TMS320C6416, TMS320C6455, TMS320C6727 and TMS320C6713. Note that TMS320C6713 is no longer available and is now replaced with tms320c6713B. Sundance has modules, PCI boards and PMC with XMC supporting 1 to 4 of the above DSPs TMS320C6414, TMS320C6416, TMS320C6455, TMS320C6727, TMS320C6454 and TMS320C6713. In general Sundance DSP supports most TI DSP’s from TMS320C6000 range commonly abbreviated to C6000 or TMS320C67xx or TMS320C64xx . The TMS320C67xx is the floating point DSP and TMS320C64xx is the fixed point family of DSPs. Sundance provides both Fixed point DSP and Floating Point DSP/Vector libraries for these families of TI DSPs. Operating systems supported are Windows XP, QNX, VxWorks and Linux. TI’s Codecomposer Studio supports Sundance DSP boards/modules platforms. 3L Diamond DSP also supports Sundance dual and multi DSP PMC based solutions using TMS320C6414, TMS320C6416 and TMS320C6727 Digital Signal Processors (DSPs).
On the FPGA solutions the Sundance DSP FPGA range comprises the Xilinx VirtexII Pro, Virtex-5 and Virtex-4 FPGAs on Peripheral Component Interface, known as PCI, PCI Mezannine Card or PMC, XMC VME and other common industry standard platforms. Operating systems supported are Windows XP, QNX, VxWorks and Linux. Multi FPGA solution can be on a PMC module or on a TIM and can be added to carrier cards of different types like PMC, PCI, VME, PC104 and even cPCI.
The Virtex2 Pro and Virtex2Pro are commonly called Virtex-II Pro, which come in different speed grades and packages. This is also true for Virtex4 and Virtex four which are mainly referred to as Virtex-4 by Xilinx. Virtex-5 is rarely called Virtex 5 or Virtex five. Sundance DSP provides DSP solutions based on any of the Virtex-4 and Virtex-5 FPGAs as well as VirtexII Pro. One can build a system based on single or multi FPGA consisting of many Virtex2 Pro and Virtex-4 and Virtex-5. One can even add in a Spartan based multi FPGA to the solution. Sundance DSP’s SMT318 provide a dual Spartan based FPGA hardware. The SMT318-SX55 , on the other hand, provides two powerful SX55 Virtex-4 FPGAs with a speed grade of –12.
DSP+FPGA boards, modules can be used for many applications like DSP, military, image processing, industrial control, medical imaging, radar, sonar, control, and automotive. To help customers develop their applications quickly Sundance DSP provides many FPGA IP Cores for many different FPGAs like Virtex II Pro from Xilinx and Virtex-4 and Virtex 5. The Polyphase filter IP Core can be used in Beamforming, Beam-Forming applications. Multiple FPGAs can be used to make a powerful system for prototyping an ASIC design.
IP Core is used to describe a module or function to be integrated into an FPGA design. An IP (intellectual property) core is a block of logic or data that is used in making a field programmable gate array (FPGA) or application-specific circuit. See http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/0,,sid9_gci759036,00.html
FPGA s from Altera will also be supported in the near future in PMC and XMC format.
There are many different highly optimized ‘Digital Signal Processing’ DSP libraries available from Sundance DSP Inc. Image Processing, Linpack, Eispack and BLAS libraries. A unique floating point DSP library for fixed point TI DSPs! Linpack, Eispack and CBLAS libraries are specialized and target DSP based solutions using TMS320C64xx and TMS320C67xx. The Sundance DSP libraries have the unique feature of being inerruptable. TI DSP libraries cannot be interrupted but all Sundance hand-coded optimized DSP, DSP/Vector, Eispack, Linpack and BLAS libraries are interruptible . The performance of Sundance Eispack, Eiganvector library is one of the best in the market.
Sundance supplies Analogue to Digital Converter ( ADC ) and Digital to Analogue Converter ( DAC ) modules and boards. Combination of DSP + FPGA + ADC +DAC + PMC board/module provides a very flexible sysytem solution for Telecommunication industry.
The Xilinx http://www.xilinx.com/products/silicon_solutions/fpgas/virtex/virtex5/index.htm Virtex-5 Multi-Platform FPGA is available on PMC DSP platform.
Combined DSP+ FPGA or DSP/FPGA is commonly used in high performance application for ‘Embedded Systems’.
