Reno, Nevada – [June 24, 2025] – SundanceDSP, a leader in FPGA-based embedded systems, announces the launch of its VNX+ to 3U VPX Adapter, a high-performance interposer designed to bridge the gap between compact VNX+ 19mm 400-pin SBCIO PIM modules and the robust, widely deployed OpenVPX SOSA-aligned systems. This passive adapter board enables VNX+ modules to be directly inserted into VPX payload slots, providing new opportunities for system integrators seeking cost-effective, space-efficient solutions without compromising SOSA alignment or rugged performance.
The board is fully passive, containing no active or powered components, and is designed for reliability and simplicity. It enables VNX+ modules to operate within the physical and electrical envelope of a 3U VPX slot using the SOSA profile MOD3-PAY-1F1F2U1TU1T1U1T-16.2.15-1. By doing so, it gives developers and integrators the flexibility to deploy low-cost, high-integration VNX+ designs within standard VPX environments, dramatically expanding the potential use cases for VNX+ form factor boards.
Key Features:
- Mechanical and electrical compatibility with VNX+ 19mm PIM modules and 3U OpenVPX systems
- Direct mapping of most signals, offering 1:1 connectivity between the VNX+ and VPX backplanes
- SOSA-compliant connector support, matched to MOD3-PAY-1F1F2U1TU1T1U1T-16.2.15-1 profile
- Control plane routed from OpenVPX CPtp to VNX+ Ethernet lanes
- 21 pairs of S2 Overlay Mezz I/O routed to the VPX XMC site
- Video plane support for S2 video signals mapped to the VPX video plane
- USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 routing for VNX+ connectivity
- SATA port routing, enabling storage interface passthrough
- Power rail LEDs for 12V, 5V, and 3.3V status indication
- Available in extended (0°C to +70°C) and industrial (-40°C to +85°C) temperature ranges
This adapter allows embedded designers and integrators to leverage existing VPX infrastructure while tapping into the growing ecosystem of VNX+ modules. It also provides board manufacturers with a clear path to develop next-generation VNX+ solutions with the confidence that their designs will be compatible with both new VNX+ systems and the large installed base of 3U VPX SOSA-aligned platforms.
“This adapter board opens up a critical pathway for hybrid system design. VNX+ boards, which are inherently compact and cost-efficient, can now be leveraged in VPX environments without any modification,” said Dr. Nory Nakhaee, CEO of SundanceDSP. “This innovation lowers the barrier to entry for developers and ensures greater reuse and scalability of VNX+ designs across multiple deployment platforms.”
“SundanceDSP’s adapter aligns well with our long-term goal to promote open standards,” added David Givens, Industry Standards VP at Samtec, the service leader in the connector industry. “By maintaining the mechanical and electrical fidelity across standards, integrators can confidently build mixed-standard systems without sacrificing performance or compliance.”
With the increasing convergence of open standards like SOSA, CMOSS, and VITA, the need for flexible and cost-effective hardware integration tools is growing rapidly. SundanceDSP’s VNX+ to VPX adapter offers a practical, standards-aligned solution that supports innovation and reduces cost in embedded computing systems.
